Today I want to share a story of rescue that shows how important volunteers are and how far compassion can go when someone refuses to give up.
Just a few days ago, a little dog named Renlo arrived at Stray Rescue of St. Louis inside a cardboard box.
He was ice cold, barely moving, and for a moment everyone thought it was too late.
“He was knocking on death’s door,” the volunteers later wrote.

A woman had found him lying on the street, still alive but in terrible condition, and rushed him straight to the shelter.
The team didn’t waste a second. They grabbed hot water bottles, warm towels and thermal blankets, trying everything to bring his temperature up again.
He was so hypothermic that their thermometers couldn’t even register it.
A Chance for Renlo

Seeing how fragile he was, the staff decided to transfer him immediately to an overnight veterinary clinic, where doctors continued the emergency care.
They shared his photo online, wrapped in blankets, tiny and still, a heartbreaking image that said everything (photo above).
At first, hope was almost gone. But after two long days, something incredible happened. Renlo started to move.
He lifted his head. He fought back. The volunteers could hardly believe it.
They filmed him, that same little dog who had arrived lifeless, now looking at the camera with bright and curious eyes.
He’s a Warrior

“Renlo is a warrior!” they wrote. “He is still very thin, but we believe he is going to make it and live a beautiful life.”
Now he is being fed small meals several times a day to help him recover slowly and safely. Every day he stays strong feels like a small miracle.
The volunteers thanked everyone who donated for his care and helped share his story.
“From the darkness of an abandoned box to the warmth of human kindness, Renlo reminds us that love can bring life back even when all hope seems lost.”
And now, for the first time, his future looks bright. He might soon have a family of his own.
Why Was He Abandoned?
As you have seen, this is a story with a happy ending, but unfortunately this is not always the case.
I always wonder what motivates these terrible acts and why, in most cases, it’s impossible to trace the people who commit them.
I hope that sharing these stories will help someone understand that every life is important and that no living creature deserves this treatment.
